The South Wales Miners’ Trust Fund has made a donation of £5,000 towards the refurbishment of Cefn Fforest Miners’ Institute.

The South Wales Miners’ Trust Fund is a grant making body which helps deliver essential recreational and social facilities in the former South Wales Coalfield.

“The South Wales Miners’ Welfare Trust Fund are pleased to support Cefn Forest Miners Welfare Institute in developing this historic building for the benefit of present and future generations. We firmly believe that people working together in a strong community with a shared goal and a common purpose can make the impossible possible.” The Trustees, South Wales Miner’s Trust Fund

Our institute has been closed for over a decade now, but since 2020 Cefn Fforest Miners’ Welfare Hall CIO (Registered Charity Number 1191718) has been steadily raising funds and engaging local trades people to bring the building back to life.

The monies from this grant will help us push ourselves over the line, towards our goal of re-opening the main hall of our institute to the public later this year.

“We believe that Miners’ Institutes and Welfare Halls were a major contribution to the wellbeing of people living in former mining communities and think it is important that we keep that legacy alive for future generations. Therefore, as well as the financial boost, we are honoured to receive a donation from an organisation so closely linked to our mining heritage”.
